Qualitative v. Quantitative

As you conduct marketing research for your brand and your music, you’ll run into different types of research. All of the data you collect is important, but this post focuses well on qualitative and quantitative data. Although they sound similar they are very different, especially since you are an artist, not a researcher.

Let’s break it down.

Qualitative

Qualitative research uses words, thoughts, and experiences. It’s used to understand concepts, thoughts, experiences, and theories. You can conduct qualitative research by asking open-ended questions, which are questions that require explanations.

Quantitative

Quantitative research uses numbers, statistics, and graphs. Its often used to confirm or test theories and is analyzed through math and statistical information. You can conduct quantitative research by conducting experiments with closed-ended questions, which are questions that have one direct answer.

Qualitative Questions

1. Which (if any) of the following traits do you associate with our brand?
2. When you think of our brand, what is the first word that comes to mind? 3. What type of person do you think our brand is aimed towards?

Quantitative Questions

1. Does a stressful work environment lead to higher turnover rates? 2. How often do you listen to R&B Music?
3. How much do you pay for streaming services?

Conclusion

Both Qualitative and Quantitative research will help you understand your diehard fans and potential fans and will also help you to clarify issues you are having and new opportunities for success. Use this guide to kick-start your qualitative and quantitative research.
